The Campaign For Better Bras After Breast Cancer

In October 2024, Pudding launched the Campaign for Better Bras After Breast Cancer

Our mission: To give more women access to better bras and better bra fitting advice after breast cancer.

Our goals:

More specialist bra fitting services on offer: across the UK & beyond

More women aware of & able to access the advice & bras they need: across the UK & beyond

A wider range of bras & breast forms for different needs & at different prices directly available to those recovering from breast cancer

Introducing more women to the Cancer Research UK Post surgery bra: a low cost, multi purpose option as a starting point after breast cancer

How do we achieve that?

By encouraging more lingerie businesses to provide expert bra fitting services for women after breast cancer

The Better Bras After Breast Cancer Bra Fitting Academy, run in collaboration with Cancer Research UK, offers a specialist post breast cancer bra fitting training programme where all trainees complete an exclusive Cancer Research UK endorsed programme & receive a certificate as a Cancer Research UK approved post breast cancer bra fitting specialist.

By giving free bra fitting advice & access to expert bra fitters to women after breast cancer

Our Better Bras After Breast Cancer hub and social media pages contain lots of useful tips on finding the right bra after breast cancer, as well as our free #BetterBras guide which you can download. You can also see a full list all our #BetterBras bra fitters, endorsed by Cancer Research UK, around the UK & internationally so you can find a bra fitter near you.

By creating a hub where women can find a range of bras and breast forms suitable at different stages and in different situations after breast cancer that all carry the Better Bras stamp of approval

Including specialist bras you may nit have seen and standard bras from your favourite brands that can be suitable in certain situations  and real life wearer reviews from women who have had breast cancer.

How can Better Bras After Breast Cancer help you?

As a woman who has been affected by breast cancer…

1 in 7 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime in the UK, and statistics across the world are similar. The good news is that survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years and today 76% of people survive breast cancer for 10 years or more. That means more women are living with the after effects of breast cancer and breast cancer treatment on a day to day basis: skin sensitivity, itchiness, numbness, hot sweats, early menopause, rashes, multiple surgical procedures, lymphoedema, hair loss, fatigue, multiple medications, uneven breasts, sore breasts, scarred breasts & bodies, unusually shaped breasts, implants that have gone wrong, incorrectly sized protheses and the struggle to find a bra that:

  • works for their new body AND

  • is comfortable AND

  • is affordable AND

  • is in their size AND

  • makes them feel attractive & feminine AND

  • can be expertly fitted for them by someone who really knows what they are doing and has time to spend with them.

The Campaign For Better Bras After Breast Cancer exists to take this last complication away for women after breast cancer, because surely they have enough to deal with without worrying about their bra?

As a lingerie retailer or brand…

Every day we hear from women all over the UK and across the world who struggle to find a bra that is suitable or access expert bra fitting advice after breast cancer. The lingerie industry is increasingly embracing the need for bras for all body shapes, sizes & situations – yet these women still feel left out.

Why is that? Well, despite the best effort of many specialist brands and bra fitters, it can be challenging to run a commercially viable business as a post breast cancer specialist retailer or brand.

The Campaign For Better Bras exists to change that – one bra at a time.

We don’t just train bra fitters in how to expertly fit, we also give them the tools they need to run a commercially viable business: product range advice; access to the Cancer Research UK bra, as a low cost starter bra; help connecting with women who need their services, the benefit of exclusive offers from brands and the credibility of being a post breast cancer bra fitter endorsed by Cancer Research UK.

We actively endorse and recommend the products from our #BetterBras brands  - because we have tested every single one and we know they are worthy of our stamp of approval. Every day we are contacted by women who want advice n which bra t wear – we give specific style recommendations & connect those women directly with brands they can buy bras from -  and for many women that is their first introduction to a brand. Our Better Bras guide features recommended styles from specialist and mainstream brands and our followers receive a copy of this free of charge .

If you are a bra fitter, lingerie retailer or swimwear or nightwear brand who wants to give more women access to better bras and grow your business at the same time, get in touch.

We believe that bra shopping should be fun, and every woman should feel spoilt for choice regardless of her boob size or shape, We’ve been celebrating and supporting women with bigger boobs since 1995 We know that our customers are individual and unique (just like our boobs!) and we celebrate and support this. That’s why we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ approach when it comes to our fitting rooms (or anything we do). We want to offer our customers the support and service that’s right for them, whilst providing an inclusive and safe place for all our teams and customers.

Leading bra fitters who wish to benefit from being part of the BetterBras community & gain CRUK endorsement are invited to register for our Fast Track Course here.

As the biggest contributor to research into breast cancer in the world after north America, with an annual spend of 20 million pounds, Cancer Research UK’s involvement gives trainees a deeper understanding of breast cancer.

The training programme has been expertly developed by Pudding & Serita Moore, Engagement Manager, Cancer Care Products, CRUK. It draws on Serita’s 20 years of experience of designing products and undertaking providing  bra fittings for women affected by breast cancer. This is coupled with Helen’s extensive experience of running a successful retailer offering bra fittings & post breast cancer bras. This enables us to provide our retailers with expert training  on how to offer an expert bra fitting service to women in all the different scenarios they face during and after breast cancer. It also means we can go much further: helping trainees to really understand the reality of breast cancer for their customers and to establish a successful business as a specialist bra fitter.

“As a post breast cancer bra fitter and bra fitting trainer for the last 20 years, I work closely with women who have undergone breast cancer and I am very familiar with some of the challenges they face.

I passionately believe that every woman should have access to specialist bra fitting advice and the right kinds of bras after breast cancer, yet still many of the post breast cancer survivors I talk to remain frustrated at what they see as the limited provision of post breast cancer specific bras and bra fitting expertise. (See the notes below for the comments from some of our breast cancer bra fitting models.)

At the same time those who have been lucky enough to have a professional bra fitting and find suitable post breast cancer bras report that it is a significant step on their road to recovery and to feeling themselves again.

Enabling more stores to be trained as specialist bra fitters is a win/win for the consumer, the retailer and the specialist post-surgery lingerie brands. Joining forces with Cancer Research UK is allowing us to spread the word to more people , offer more than the average training course and raise awareness of the important work of Cancer Research UK to encourage more people to donate and get involved.”

Serita Moore, Engagement Manager, Cancer Research UK, commented

“My 20 plus-year track record of designing products and undertaking bra fittings for women during and after breast cancer has taught me the importance of having more specially trained bra fitters who can offer the right products for women after breast cancer.
